Fly Jam is part of a series of graphic narratives based on my dreams. I often have dreams with complex, surreal, chaotic, or symbolic plots—mystical events that stir the mind. Like many surrealists, I feel the need to share them—to lay them out in detail, visualize their bizarre intricacies, and explore their magical and fantastic nature.
So far, only one comic from this project has been completed—"Fly Jam". It was drawn from a dream in which an entryway to a parallel universe appeared through a stain on the wall—a mark left by jam or preserves from another reality. From this stain emerged something—a monster-like woman or a woman-like monster, bound to this world by a strange, sticky logic. The full plot can be discovered in the project itself, but here is its hidden meaning:
"Fly Jam" is a metaphor for a child's perception of reality. In childhood, so much goes unnoticed: where money comes from, why adults behave the way they do, what lurks behind closed doors. A child’s naive, sheltered world is just a thin barrier, beyond which lies something greater, more complex, sometimes traumatic—something carefully hidden from sight. But all it takes is an accidental stain in the wrong place, and the adult world begins to seep through.
Fly Jam is dreams frozen on paper—ink-stained doors to other realities.
