Series of digital illustration for Peter Watts novel
BlindSight Artworks is a series of digital illustrations created in Procreate, inspired by Peter Watts' novel Blindsight. Back in 2016, after reading the book, I was so impressed by its atmosphere that I wanted to create a visual representation of its characters and world. As a result, I illustrated portraits of all the main characters, including aliens, a robot, and the mysterious cosmic object described in the story. Additionally, I created a panoramic illustration to capture the novel's essence.
Some time later, Peter Watts himself reached out to me via DeviantArt. He noted that my illustrations perfectly conveyed the book’s atmosphere and asked for permission to feature them on his official website. I gladly agreed, and my works became part of his portal.
A year later, a Chinese publishing house preparing a translated edition of Blindsight contacted me. They wanted to purchase two of my illustrations for the book’s design. I was happy to oblige, and my images were published in the Chinese edition. Another year later, the same publisher commissioned me to create new illustrations for the second book in the series, Echopraxia. I then produced two more illustrations in the same style, again using Procreate and iPad Pro.
This project not only allowed me to immerse myself in the visual style of Peter Watts’ universe but also provided valuable experience working with publishers and international authors. Later, my connection with Watts led him to write an article about my book Alevtina and Tamara on his website, which resulted in sales in the U.S. and Canada.
Here, I present all the illustrations created as part of the BlindSight Artworks project – from the initial fan art to the officially published works.
